Thursday YouTubein’ — “Weird Al” Yankovic
Not much to say about this week’s installment except that I’m always up for some humor, and I suspect Al Yankovic and I would get along famously. π
“White and Nerdy” (a parody of Chamillionaire’s “Ridin’;” from Straight Outta Lynwood, 2006):
“Bob” (an original song in the style of Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues;” all the lines are palindromes; from Poodle Hat, 2003):
“Amish Paradise” (a parody of Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise;” from Bad Hair Day, 1996):
“Like A Surgeon” (a parody of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin;” from Wikipedia: “Notable because Madonna herself gave the idea for the title of the song, when asked in an interview what sort of parody Yankovic would make of ‘Like a Virgin’;” from Dare to Be Stupid, 1985):

Love them all. Love Weird Al. Full stop.
Either last year or the year before, the BC band played an excellent arrangement of “Ridin'” at the Beanpot. I mean it was really, really good, to the point where I actually complimented my friend in the band and admitted that they had most definitely won the best band contest. I was far from the only person in my group of BU partisans, however, that suggested that they were playing Al’s song instead. π

Pete and I saw him in concert this fall and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. He came out for “White and Nerdy” riding a Segway.

White and Nerdy is one of my favorite Weird Al songs.
